About the Scheme
Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai is Tamil Nadu's flagship women empowerment scheme providing Rs. 1,000 per month to eligible women heads of households via Direct Benefit Transfer to support family expenses and improve financial independence.
Welfare Benefits & Assistance
- •Monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,000 credited directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT
- •Total annual financial benefit of Rs. 12,000 per household
- •Payments typically disbursed on the 15th of each month
- •Proposed increase to Rs. 2,500/month under future government restructuring (yet to be implemented)
Eligibility Criteria
Additional Prerequisites
- Only one woman per family (as per ration card) is eligible for the benefit
- Must be recognized as the head of the household on the ration card
- Must possess a valid ration card issued by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Department
- Must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account in her name for DBT
- Government employees, pensioners, and Income Tax payers are excluded

Visit the official Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai portal (kmut.tn.gov.in)
Register using your Aadhaar number and ration card details
Fill the online application form with personal, family, and bank details
Upload scanned documents and submit the form
Track application status using the reference number generated
Visit the nearest e-Sevai centre or authorized government camp
Carry original Aadhaar card, ration card, and bank passbook
The e-Sevai operator will complete the application form on your behalf
Collect the printed acknowledgment receipt
Applications can also be submitted at the District Collectorate or Taluk office

- ✓Women aged 21+ who are heads of households in Tamil Nadu with ration cards
- ✓Low-income families where the annual income is below Rs. 2.5 Lakh
- ✓Widowed, single, or divorced women managing family households in Tamil Nadu
Who Should NOT Apply?
- ✗Government employees or pensioners
- ✗Families where any member pays Income Tax
- ✗Families owning a four-wheeler vehicle (excluding tractor)
- ✗Women not listed as the head of household on the ration card
